授業概要 / Course Description
This course examines the interconnected roles of language, culture, and context in shaping intercultural communication. It adopts an experiential, student-centred approach, encouraging active engagement and critical reflection through activities that promote direct intercultural awareness and interaction. Course content is delivered through a combination of short lectures, language- and culture-focused activities, discussions, and readings. Students are expected to apply key concepts to describe and analyse the multicultural and multilingual landscapes of the Kansai region in Japan. In addition, they will reflect critically on course themes and their own intercultural experiences.

On-Demand Content:
Between Weeks 11–14, students will complete an intercultural task (ICT5) in which they use AI tools to explore intercultural communication concepts discussed in class. Students are required to follow the teacher’s instructions carefully when completing the task. After finishing the activity, they will respond to guided reflection questions about their experience. The task is expected to take approximately 90 minutes, and submission in accordance with the provided instructions is required to receive a grade.授業時間外学習 / Expected work outside of class
Students are expected to complete weekly readings as well as complete assessments such as the group podcast project on multicultural and multilingual landscapes in the Kansai area.

The class will be conducted entirely in English. Students are expected to use only English as they work in pairs, small groups, and contribute to class discussions. Students are expected to contribute to class discussions and will be called upon for responses. Students are required to bring their devices (e.g., laptop, tablet, etc.) to complete tasks and assessments during class.
