授業概要 / Course Description
This class will prepare students for study abroad and cultural understanding by improving students English levels, focusing on study abroad themes and by working with student from another country on a COIL project.
This class aims to develop all areas of English skills through various formats. Students will learn how to write an academic paragraph and give a presentation. They will also be required to participate in discussions and debates in class. Students will be required to study independently, and collaborate with other class members.
Students wanting to join this class must have a positive mind, a will to cooperate and collaborate with others, and a strong work ethic. This is a foundation class, so returning exchange students and final-year students are advised to join more suitable KUGF courses according to their needs and abilities.
授業は全て英語で行われます。履修する学生は以下の語学力(相当)を必要とします:
GTEC 180以上260未満
TOEFL ITP 430以上505未満
TOEFL iBT 40以上60未満
TOEIC 375以上580未満
IELTS 4.5
英検準2級および2級
CEFR A2-B1
・本科目は、入学時及び2年進級時に受験しているプレースメントテスト(GTECまたはTOEFL ITP)のスコアを利用し、履修者が定員を超過した場合は上記スコア要件に合致していない学生から優先的に削除されます。本科目の受講を希望しており、GTEC受験以降に上記のスコアに相当する語学力を取得した者は、事後抽選日の2日前(土日祝日を除く)までに各種テストの証明書コピーを国際教育支援室まで提出してください。また、スコア要件に合致している学生で定員を超過した場合は、無作為抽選となります。
・上記スコア以上を取得している場合は、ぜひさらなるレベル向上を目指してModule1~8を履修してください。なお履修に困った場合は、国際教育支援室に相談してください。
This class may adopt COIL practice (Collaborative Online International Learning), in which students will connect online with overseas students to work collaboratively to complete a project. COIL aims to provide learning opportunities for students to gain desirable employability qualities, such as intercultural competency, digital literacy, leadership skills, etc. *For more information about COIL for this course, please directly contact the instructor or ask them at the first class.

There will be team-based projects requiring students to work outside of class hours. Students are expected to complete assigned homework before the next lesson to allow for group discussion during class.
Note* COIL activities will require students to meet online outside of class hours due to international time zone differences.

Evaluation is based on assignments, the completed reports submitted, and presentations. The effort, attitude, and commitment to the tasks in class by the student will also be considered.
NOTE: If this course is conducted with a COIL component (several weeks of collaboration with students from an overseas university), then participation in the online COIL project will grant an automatic pass for the entire course. Higher grades are obtained based on the quality of the projects submitted.
