In  this  course,  students  are  given  opportunities  to  develop  cross-cultural  and  intercultural  competence  through  various  activities,  such  as  contrasting  and  comparing  aspects  of  various  culture,  or  participating  in  discussions  among  participants  from  different  backgrounds.  It  enhances  students'  abilities  to  understand,evaluate,  and  provide  culturally  sensitive  and  competent  human  services  to  members  of  diverse  groups.  This  course  gives  students  the  opportunity  to  reflect  upon  their  own  cultural  development  and  to  be  more  sensitive  to  others.  This  course  will  engage  in  international  collaborative  (on-line)  learning  activities,  which  is  called  COIL  (Kansai  University/  Collaborative  Online  International  Learning).

この科目は、受講生の英語の理解度に合わせて、担任者が、日本語使用が適切だと判断した場合（課題説明時など）に、日本語への切り替えや日本語で補足した教材スライドを使用します。 

履修する学生は以下の語学力（相当）を必要とします： 
GTEC  180未満 
TOEFL  ITP  430未満 
TOEFL  iBT  Test  40未満 
TOEIC  (L&R)  Test  375未満 
IELTS  4.0 
英検準2級未満 
CEFR  A2 

・本科目は、入学時及び２年進級時に受験しているプレースメントテスト（GTECまたはTOEFL  ITP）のスコアを利用し、履修者が定員を超過した場合はスコア要件に合致していない学生から優先的に削除されます。また、スコア要件に合致している学生で定員を超過した場合は、無作為抽選となります。 

・上記スコア以上を取得している場合は、ぜひさらなるレベル向上を目指して、留学準備スキルアップ科目の内Foundation  for  Academic  English,  ASEAN  studies,  KUGF  Independent  Study  (Doing  a  Research  in  English)などの科目や、英語で開講されている専門科目(GF科目モジュール）を履修してください。なお履修に困った場合は、国際教育支援室に相談してください。 

This  class  may  adopt  COIL  practice  (Collaborative  Online  International  Learning),  in  which  students  will  connect  online  with  overseas  students  to  work  collaboratively  to  complete  a  project.  COIL  aims  to  provide  learning  opportunities  for  the  students  to  gain  desirable  employability  qualities,  such  as  intercultural  competency,  digital  literacy,  leadership  skills,  etc.

本科目は「COIL（Collaborative  Online  International  Learning：海外との協働学習）」を取り入れる場合があります。COILでは海外の学生とオンラインで繋がり、チームプロジェクト等を通して協働学習を行います。COILを実践することで、異文化理解力、デジタルリテラシー、リーダーシップ力等これからのグローバル人材が必要とされる能力の向上を目的としています。※COILを実施するかどうかは、担当講師に直接問い合わせるか、授業初日に確認してください。

The  specific  course  objectives  are  as  follows:
(1)To  explore  cultural  self-awareness,  other  culture  awareness,  and  the  dynamics  in  interactions. 
(2)To  understand  how  communication  processes  differ  among  cultures.
(3)To  identify  challenges  that  arise  from  these  differences  in  intercultural  interactions  and  learn  ways  to 
    creatively  address  them.
(4)To  discover  the  importance  of  the  roles  of  context  and  power  in  studying  intercultural  communication.
(5)To  acquire  knowledge,  skills  and  attitudes  that  increase  intercultural  competence
