授業概要 / Course Description
After acquiring Japanese skills sufficient for communication in academic settings, the next step is to develop Japanese that can be used effectively in professional and workplace contexts. This introductory-level Business Japanese course focuses on building practical communication skills for a variety of business situations.
Students will learn Japanese expressions and communication styles commonly used when seeking employment at Japanese companies, working with Japanese supervisors and colleagues, or interacting with Japanese companies in a professional capacity, either in Japan or in their home countries. Through practical activities and collaborative tasks, students will gain hands-on experience with business-related Japanese communication while developing an understanding of workplace culture in Japan.
Enrollment Requirements:
To enroll in this course, students must meet one of the following requirements:
・Be enrolled in Level 5 or higher of Kansai University’s Japanese Language Skill-Up Unit courses, or
・Hold JLPT N2 or CEFR B2 certification.
Students who do not meet these requirements should consult with the course instructor prior to registration.到達目標 / Course Objectives

1.Understand the similarities and differences between academic Japanese and business Japanese, and use each appropriately depending on the situation.
2.Experience and understand the types of Japanese communication expected in professional and workplace settings.

Week 1: Orientation and self-assessment of current abilities
Week 2: Self-introductions and exchanging business cards
Week 3: Checking and confirmation / Acting as an intermediary
Week 4: Checking and confirmation / Rephrasing questions
Week 5: Sharing information and raising awareness / Giving explanations
Week 6: Correcting errors made by oneself and others
Week 7: Giving opinions and making suggestions
Week 8: Understanding legal and company-related documents
Week 9: Obtaining and handling information
Week 10: Data interpretation and summarization / Understanding trends
Week 11: Writing and responding to emails
Week 12: Making appointments
Week 13: Creating a positive atmosphere for negotiation (small talk)
Week 14: Understanding implied meanings and intentions in communication
On-Demand Lecture Session: Explanation of the Business Japanese test (30-minute video) and an assignment (60 minutes)
Note:
Guest speakers from the business community may be invited.

Students are expected to review class materials outside of class. In order for assignments to be completed on the class date, students will have to work outside of class.

定期試験を行わず、平常試験(小テスト・レポート等)で総合評価する。

Students are expected to attend regularly, actively participate in class with meaningful contributions, show good performance in group works. There is a strict attendance policy and anyone who is late more than 20 minutes will be marked absent. And if attendance is unsatisfactory, a failing grade may be given. Students must notify the teacher in advance regarding absences, giving justification.

If you are unable to attend a class, you must notify the instructor within two days before or after the class. Notification may be made by phone or email. Students who are absent for more than one-third of the total number of classes will not be eligible to receive course credit.
