授業概要 / Course Description
This course, Global Sociology, explores social change through a sociological lens combining theory, readings, and fieldwork. Students will investigate social phenomena such as the influence of tourism in Japan, cultural spaces of coffee, and the evolution of communication patterns. Through understanding of sociology theories, readings, discussions, fieldwork, presentations, and analysis of media and academic texts, students will develop critical thinking skills, and conduct independent research on social change at individual, group, and institutional levels. The course also covers foundational and modern sociological theory that includes brief introductions to Karl Marx, Harriet Matineu, Emile Durkheim, Judith Butler.

授業は全て英語で行われます。履修する学生は以下の語学力(相当)を必要とします:
GTEC 260以上
TOEFL ITP 505以上
TOEFL iBT 60以上
TOEIC 580以上

英検準1級以上

・本科目は、入学時及び2年進級時に受験しているプレースメントテスト(GTECまたはTOEFL ITP)のスコアを利用し、履修者が定員を超過した場合は上記スコア要件に合致していない学生から優先的に削除されます。本科目の受講を希望しており、GTEC受験以降に上記のスコアに相当する語学力を取得した者は、事後抽選日の2日前(土日祝日を除く)までに各種テストの証明書コピーを国際教育支援室まで提出してください。また、スコア要件に合致している学生で定員を超過した場合は、無作為抽選となります。
・上記スコアを所持していない学生は、先に留学準備スキルアップ科目を修得する等、CEFR B1以上の取得を目指してください。到達目標 / Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Understand and apply foundational and modern sociological theories and theorists to contemporary social issues.
Apply sociological concepts and theories to analyze social change.
Critically evaluate media, academic, and other sources related to social issues and present research findings effectively through presentations and written work.
Conduct sociological research, including data collection (surveys, interviews, observations) and analysis, to investigate a social change topic.
