授業概要 / Course Description
Japanese Culture (Modern Culture and Post-war History) is a combination lecture that examines Japanese post-war history from the end of WWII to the present day. This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of key events and developments of the post-war that include intellectual trends and social movements, material culture, political and economic changes, gender relations, and issues affecting the ordinary person. In our investigation of Japanese post-war history and culture, we will draw on a number of mediums such as television, film, manga, online interviews and social media.
授業は全て英語で行われます。履修する学生は以下の語学力(相当)を必要とします:
GTEC 260以上
TOEFL ITP 505以上
TOEFL iBT 60以上
TOEIC 580以上
IELTS 5.0
英検準1級以上

・本科目は、入学時及び2年進級時に受験しているプレースメントテスト(GTECまたはTOEFL ITP)のスコアを利用し、履修者が定員を超過した場合は上記スコア要件に合致していない学生から優先的に削除されます。本科目の受講を希望しており、GTEC受験以降に上記のスコアに相当する語学力を取得した者は、事後抽選日の2日前(土日祝日を除く)までに各種テストの証明書コピーを国際教育支援室まで提出してください。また、スコア要件に合致している学生で定員を超過した場合は、無作為抽選となります。
・上記スコアを所持していない学生は、先に留学準備スキルアップ科目を修得する等、CEFR B1以上の取得を目指してください。到達目標 / Course Objectives

* The topics are tentative. Some changes may be applied depending on students' interests.
* Starting with Week 8, in each session some time will be allocated for brainstorming ideas, research, editing and rehearsal for the final group presentation.授業時間外学習 / Expected work outside of class
Readings or films to watch in advance will be provided for each class. Students are expected also to review important keywords and cultural concepts and prepare for a short quiz after each module. Some time will be needed to research the group topic for the final presentation.

定期試験を行わず、平常試験(小テスト・レポート等)で総合評価する。
Participation (discussions&assignments): 40%
Quizzes (mini test at the end of each module) 30%
Final Group Presentation: 30%基準・評価 / Evaluation Criteria・Assessment Policy
* Being more than 15min late will be counted as an absence.
* As communication and discussion are important in achieving the course objectives, being absent more than one third of total number of classes may not be credited (attend at least 10 sessions!)
* The instructor must be contacted in advance if for some reason participation in the final group presentation is prevented.

Feedback Method Short feedback will be provided by the end of each module. The final group presentation will also include a few minutes of feedback.

Other Comments Students are encouraged to actively participate in the class discussions, submit their assignments and keep track of their weekly progress. To minimize paper consumption, digital submission of assignments and the use of a personal notebook is also encouraged.
