授業概要 / Course Description

 This  course  is  designed  for  students  who  have  already  studied  pre  intermediate  Japanese  at  Kansai  University  (up  to  level  2-a,  2-b),  or  to  an  equivalent  level  elsewhere.  In  this  course,  students  will  study  intermediate  level  grammar,  expressions  and  phrases  in  Japanese  for  intermediate  proficiency,  N3  in  Nihongo  Noryoku  Shiken  (Japanese  Proficiency  Test). 
 The  course  focuses  on  oral  communication  skills,  i.e.,  speaking  and  listening  in  Japanese.  In  addition  to  using  Japanese  in  interpersonal  as  well  as  presentational  communicative  contexts,  students  will  gain  the  ability  to  make  short  speeches  on  both  casual  and  academic  topics.  And  the  students  will  further  develop  interactional  competence  through  various  communication  activities,  such  as  open  role-plays,  guest  lectures,  discussions,  and  debates  in  groups. 

到達目標 / Course Objectives

Upon  completion  of  this  course,  in  Japanese,  students  will  be  able  to: 
・Generally  identify  the  topic  of  discussion  around  him/her,  when  it  is  conducted  slowly  and  clearly.
・Understand  enough  to  manage  simple,  routine  exchanges  without  undue  effort.
・Describe  plans  and  arrangements,  habits  and  routines,  past  activities  and  personal  experiences.
・Use  simple  descriptive  language  to  make  brief  statements  about  and  compare  objects  and  possessions.
*  Students  in  this  course  will  be  encouraged  to  aim  for  N3  in  proficiency  level  in  Nihongo  Noryoku  Shiken  (Japanese  Proficiency  Test).

This  class  will  require  individual  pre-learning  and  reviewing  of  the  newly  introduced  grammar,  vocabulary,  and  expressions.

方法 / Grading Policies

定期試験を行わず、平常試験(小テスト・レポート等)で総合評価する。
Participation  and  performance  in  the  class  (35%)
Homework  (15%)
Quizzes  &  Midterm  Examination  (30%)
Final  Examination  (20%)

基準・評価 / Evaluation Criteria・Assessment Policy

Students  are  expected  to  attend  regularly,  actively  participate  in  class  with  meaningful  contributions,  show  good  performance  in  periodic  tests,  and  reach  the  required  standard  in  the  final  exam.  There  is  a  strict  attendance  policy  and  anyone  who  is  late  more  than  20  minutes  will  be  marked  absent.  And  if  attendance  is  unsatisfactory  (i.e.,  less  than  65%),  a  failing  grade  may  be  given.  Students  must  notify  the  teacher  in  advance  regarding  absences,  giving  justification.

This  course  is  taught  concurrently  with  Japanese  (3-b),  which  focuses  on  reading  and  writing  skills.
