授業概要 / Course Description
This course introduces basic theories, institutional structures, and practice of international development. Through an interdisciplinary approach, the course addresses and examines some important questions: What does development mean? What are the contemporary theories/approaches and issues of development? Why some countries are poorer than others? How does development take place in national, regional, and international level? Who are the development actors/stakeholders and how have they sought to address the issues and challenges of development over time? This course is aimed at exploring answers to such questions by providing an overview of existing knowledge in the field of international development. It will focus on the role of different actors in various development issues and practice, which would allow students to develop their knowledge in contemporary development studies.
授業は全て英語で行われます。履修する学生は以下の語学力（相当）を必要とします：
GTEC 260以上
TOEFL ITP 505以上
TOEFL iBT 60以上
TOEIC 580以上
IELTS 5.0
英検準１級以上
CEFR B1
・本科目は、入学時及び２年進級時に受験しているプレースメントテスト（GTECまたはTOEFL ITP）のスコアを利用し、履修者が定員を超過した場合は上記スコア要件に合致していない学生から優先的に削除されます。本科目の受講を希望しており、GTEC受験以降に上記のスコアに相当する語学力を取得した者は、事後抽選日の2日前（土日祝日を除く）までに各種テストの証明書コピーを国際教育支援室まで提出してください。また、スコア要件に合致している学生で定員を超過した場合は、無作為抽選となります。
・上記スコアを所持していない学生は、先に留学準備スキルアップ科目を修得する等、CEFR B1以上の取得を目指してください。到達目標 / Course Objectives
The fundamental objective of the course is to help students promote a nuanced understanding of international development in theory and practice so that they can participate in debate and apply theories/approaches to analyze development issues.

定期試験を行わず、平常試験(小テスト・レポート等)で総合評価する。
Grading will be based on participation in the class, discussion, short papers/reports, and in-class exams.
Class participation and discussion: 15%
Papers/reports: 20%
Mid-term exam: 30%

The overall evaluation will depend on how students understand theories/concepts of development learned in the class and how they can apply them to analyze important issues in development studies.
